Shirley M. Bravar Giles

Shirley M. Bravar Giles, 96, passed away on August 13, 2026, just two weeks shy of her 97th birthday. Shirley was born on August 28, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, with her parents, Harry and Elsie Sutman, and her twin brothers, Bill and Harry. Her parents and brothers preceded her in death. Shirley met Bob Bravar while attending Swissvale High School. They were married in 1951 and had three children: Bobbilynn, Kim, and Blaz. In 1958, the family moved to Orlando, Florida. Shirley worked as an administrative assistant at Maynard Evans High School. She loved her job, and the students loved her. She was a cheerleading sponsor and leader of the Shirley Bravar Tri-Hi-Y. Shirley was active in the Lutheran church. She was a member of the choir and helped with children’s activities. The beach was Shirley’s favorite place, and the family made many special memories there. She enjoyed musicals and knew every song. She also loved to cook. In 1978, Shirley married Virgil Giles. They enjoyed boating and often joined friends on boat trips. They lived in Leesburg and Clermont, Florida, and were active at Morrison First United Methodist Church in Leesburg. Shirley loved life and had many dear friends. She loved singing, dancing, and being with her family and friends. Shirley was a loving, caring person who was loved by many. The last years of Shirley’s life were spent at Madison At Ocoee, where she received compassionate and loving care. The most joyful parts of Shirley’s life involved her three children, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Bobbilynn “Bobbi” Bravar Hagler and her husband, Carlos; Kim Ciepcielinski Kirven and her husband, Rogers; and Blaz Bravar and his wife, Kim. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brett Hagler and his wife, Demi; Josh Hagler and his wife, Preston; Drew Ciepcielinski and his wife, Emily; Kelly Hosmer and her husband, David; Brady Ciepcielinski and his wife, Elizabeth; and Katie Brugal and her husband, Michael; as well as twelve great-grandchildren. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on September 26 at 3:00 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of the Lakes, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Orlando, Florida. A reception will follow at 4:00 p.m. at American Social restaurant, 7335 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando, Florida. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, “Everyone wear bright colors and be happy.” In lieu of flowers, please donate in Shirley’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, Orlando Hospice Care, or Morrison First United Methodist Church of Leesburg.
