Richard "Woody" Alexander Wood

Richard Alexander Wood, born August 3, 1935, in Lancaster, PA passed to his heavenly home April 17, 2026, following three months of illness. Richard (Woody) leaves his devoted wife, Jane Lois Wood after 58 wonderful years. In 2007 they retired to The Villages, FL. After living in Indian Head, MD for 32 years, he finally left the job he truly loved. He leaves two Children - Son, Steven Wood, (Carrie) Port Charlotte, FL; Daughter, Michele Wood Shepard (Michael) Mechanicsville, MD; nine grandchildren – Brandon, Ehren; Hannah, Rebecca, Lucas, Daniel, Maria, Naomi, Abigail and five great-grandchildren – Aiden, Dominick, Kylo, Dean, Isabelle. Richard’s son by previous marriage, Richard Alexander Wood, II of MA; his brother Ronald Wood (Linda) of Columbia, PA. Richard’s career in the US Air Force was his life. He entered the military in 1954, following high school graduation. He started his 30 year career at Samson AFB, NY, then Westover AFB, MA; followed by Spangdahlem AB, Germany; on to Dyess AFB, TX; after completing Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, Indian Head, MD, he was assigned to CamRahn Bay AB, Vietnam; followed on to Griffiss AFB, NY; RAF Welford, England; Holloman AFB, NM; Incirlik AB, Turkey; Holloman AFB, again; finally finishing out his career as an instructor at NAVSCOLEOD, Indian Head, MD. Most of his career was spent as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician retiring 1984 as Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military retirement, he worked with a private company, HFA Applications, Inc., Indian Head, and Waldorf, MD for 25 years doing remediation of ordnance at many military bases, and private industry. Richard is preceded in death, by Mother, Esther Ruth Wood Kepner; Father, Richard Alexander Donnelly; sister, Esther Naomi Wood Brooks Richard was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor. He loved his family and friends very much; always there for them when needed. Woodworking was a hobby he enjoyed, building many beautiful pieces of furniture throughout the years. In retirement at The Villages, you would always find him working in his yard. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him. Richard was 32nd Degree Mason, with Perseverance Lodge#208, Indian Head, MD and member of American Legion Post 347, Lady Lake, FL Memorial Service, 10:00AM, May 8th, 2026; Trinity Lutheran Church, 17330 Hwy 441, Summerfield,FL 34491.
