Obituary of Richard Beattie Richard M. Beattie, 75, The Villages, FL passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2013. Mr. Beattie was born and raised in Detroit, MI. After graduating from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science, he made his home in Toledo, OH and started his career as an auditor with Arthur Young and Co. After several years he became the first Secretary/Treasurer with the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA). In 1976 he returned his family to MI to accept the position of Director of Finance and Administration with Southeastern Michigan Transit Authority (SEMTA/SMART), residing in Farmington Hills. He ended his career as a consultant with the City of Detroit Department of Transportation (D-DOT). He was a CPA in OH, MI, and FL. Upon retiring, Mr. Beattie relocated to The Villages, FL which he considered to be the best move of his life. He greatly enjoyed his golf and poker games and all of the friends he had in his neighborhood. Mr. Beattie loved reading the newspapers each morning and Time magazine each week. He was known in the neighborhood for his dry sense of humor and one liners. Even during his illness, he kept his caregivers entertained with his quick wit, which never failed him. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen, children Laura of Sanford, FL, Jennifer (Dan Schulte) of Petersburg, MI, Brian of Westland, MI, Stephen (Jennifer) of Redford, MI and brother Charles of Stockton, California. He will be missed by his beloved grandchildren Hunter, Alison, Jaden and Ethan. He is also survived by his "adopted" daughter Laura McDonald and granddaughters Lyndsey and Paige. He is greatly missed by his dogs Rex and Chloe. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 2-5 at his home.
