Monroe "Miles" Burnett

Monroe "Miles" Burnett, most beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully June 26th at the age of 79. He was a remarkable and much loved man, and the best husband, father and brother anyone could hope to have. Miles was born 7/20/1939 in Euclid, Ohio, where he graduated from Euclid High School and played lead guitar in the folk singing group The Inn Mates. He attended Ohio State University, then transferred to Kent State University where he met his soon to be wife, Peg. Upon graduation in 1963 with a BS degree in Business Administration he was accepted into the Naval Officers Candidate program. Prior to leaving for basic training he married Margaret "Peg" Nebergall of Sandusky, Ohio. Miles served in the Navy from 1963 to 1968 as a Lieutenant flying the P2V Neptune for the VP-21 squadron. Upon his honorable discharge he accepted a position flying for Pan American Airways out of San Francisco until he was furloughed due to Pan Am's cutbacks. Now living in Hayward, Calif., he worked as a Trust Officer for Bank of America. He attended night school during this time and obtained his law degree - Passing the California Bar Exam on his first attempt. He fulfilled his passion for flying by flying his family on short trips through the Napa Valley on weekends. When the furlough with Pan Am ended in 1987, Miles returned to flying, Peg quit teaching and they started on a new adventure living in Berlin, Germany which allowed them many opportunities to experience Europe. What a Blessing! When the Berlin Wall came down he was reassigned to Miami, Florida until Pan Am was forced to close. Now living in Miramar, Florida, Miles volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem for troubled youths. An accomplished pianist, he continued to pursue his interests in music through piano playing and adding his tenor voice to his church choir and the Nova Singer's choir at Nova South Eastern University. When Peg retired from teaching in 2005, they moved to The Village where God guided them to help build His church, St. Alban's Anglican Church of Lady Lake. Mile's other interests included singing with the Village Voices and Brother's in Song, golfing, cooking, solving crossword puzzles, reading and enjoying many social activities with the close friends he made in The Villages. Miles was preceded in death by his parents Monroe and Doris Burnett and his brother David. Miles is survived by his wife Peg, son Steven of Lauderhill, Fl., brother James Burnett (Rosemary) of Hawaii, his brother/sister-in-law David & Judi Nebergall of Roswell, AL and wonderful nieces and nephews all of whom will miss him terribly. His humor, wise counsel, good company and smile were a great blessing and will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on Sat., July 13 at 2:00 at St. Alban's Anglican Church, 625 W Lady Lake Blvd., Lady Lake, FL. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. on Mon., July 15th at 11:00.
