LaRue "Lefty" Harmon

It is with the greatest sadness that the family of LaRue K Harmon, 94, of Leesburg, Florida announces his passing. Lefty joined our Lord in Heaven early Tuesday morning on July 30th, 2024. Born on July 23, 1930, Lefty was the son of the late Leeland and Iva Harmon. He graduated from Berwick High School in 1948, and after graduation he joined the US Air Force, serving four years. Lefty retired from Bell Telephone in 1990. In Lefty’s younger years he was an active member of the Ridge Runners where he enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors with his kids and grandkids. Following retirement Lefty could be found on the golf course, fishing, telling stories, working around the house and hanging out with family. Lefty was an active member of Midway Baptist Church where he put his fishing skills to use to help supply their fish fries, singing in their choir and serving as a Deacon. Lefty will be sadly missed by his wife Lenore K. Harmon of Leesburg, Florida. He will also be missed by Pokie his little Chihuahua. Son Rick Harmon and wife Lori. Daughters, Debbie Bennett and husband Rick, Vicky Hightower and husband James. Son-in-law William Kreischer. Stepdaughters Janine Botsford and husband Andrew, Deana Karafinski and husband Ray. Stepson Michael Carpenetti and wife Cheryl. Grandchildren Krista Hart, Tanner, Macy and Perri Harmon, Nathan Kreischer, Natalie Buccat, Allison Harmon, Tucker Hightower, Candice Freeman, Gary Maslinski, Adam, Brendan and Teagan Karafinski, Michael and Robert Carpenetti and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Lefty was preceded in death by daughter Lorraine Kreischer, a son Danny, stepdaughter Mary Ellen Saki Carpenetti, sisters Zelda Unger, Norma Shoemaker, Zelma Sholes, brothers Leeland and Lemoral Harmon . Whether you know him as Lefty, Pop, Pop LaRue, or Pop from Florida he will be missed immensely. Lefty made friends everywhere he went. He was a wealth of knowledge who could answer any question and whether it was right or wrong, we totally believed him. He always took the time to lend a helping hand to a friend or strangers alike. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 10:00 AM at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W. Main St, Leesburg, Florida 34748. In lieu of contributions, Lefty’s family asks that the next time you are at your favorite fishing hole, the golf course, or just taking a walk, that you think of him and his love of life.
