Jean Young

Obituary of Jean Young Jean Kerr Young, age 91, of Leesburg, FL passed over to be with her beloved husband Rollin on October 1 following a brief illness. Jean was born in Titusville, PA, the second of four daughters of Esther Davis and Eber Laverne Kerr, on December 20, 1921. She was a 1943 graduate of Clarion State Teachers College, matriculating with majors in Library Science and English, and received a BS degree in Education. On August 4, 1943, she married W. Rollin Young of Benton, PA and they moved to Cameron, WV, and later to Clarksburg, WV, where she lived for many years and raised her family of four . A devout Christian, Jean was a life-long member of the Methodist Church, most recently a member at Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg. She worked for the Harrison County (WV) school board as Assistant Librarian at Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg from 1964-1968. From 1968-1974 she was the director of Salem College's Clarksburg Campus library. After a brief tenure as Circulation Librarian at the Clarksburg Public Library she moved with Rollin to Corry, PA, and later to Fredonia, NY, where she worked as Assistant Librarian at the Darwin R. Barker public library from 1978-1984. Upon retirement, they moved to Statesville, NC, and then to Leesburg, FL. Jean was pre-deceased by her late husband Rollin Young and her sister Dorothy Dressler. She is survived by sisters Barbara Beers of Titusville, PA, and Shirley Johnson of Ashtabula, OH; children Wendell Young of Villa Park, CA, Marcia Fletcher of Sahuarita, AZ, Roger Young of O'Fallon, MO, Melanie Priest of Florissant, MO; and grandchildren Jeff Sell, Angela Simoneau, Victoria Young, Dennis Young, Kristen Shumaker, Connie Priest, Andrew Priest, Justin Priest and Stacy Priest; and 6 great-grandchildren. Jean was a loving, caring person who was an inspiration to all who knew her by the very example of her life. She leaves us with warm memories of a life well lived. Visitation will be from 1 to 2PM on Friday October 4, 2013 in the chapel of Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg, Florida with the Funeral Service beginning at 2 PM. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg. For those who wish and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
