Barbara A. Chabalko

Barbara A. Chabalko, 80, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 26, 1946, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, to Frank and Lois (née Runyon) Mondik. Barbara will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered on her family and her faith. She shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, John. She is survived by her children: Amanda Hoffmaster of Shavertown, PA; Heather Smith of Leesburg, FL; Matthew Chabalko of Salinas, CA; and Andrew (Katya) Chabalko of Hopatcong, NJ. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Megan Hoffmaster, Michael Hoffmaster, Cecelia Chabalko, Stella Chabalko, and Jackson Chabalko, and a cherished great-grandmother to Joshua, Jacob, Amari, Lily, Oliver, Emilia, and Kinsley. She is also survived by her siblings, Pauline Lee, Joseph Mondik, and Debra Kavitski. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Frank Mondik, Jr.; her beloved granddaughter, Heather Hoffmaster; and her son-in-law, David Yonkoski. Barbara’s faith was an important part of her life. She served as Coordinator of Catechism at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Hazleton, PA, and later attended St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Orlando, FL. She enjoyed spending time with friends as a member of the Highland Lakes Chorus and the Royal Highland Dance Club, and she loved playing bunco and bocce. Before her retirement, Barbara dedicated her career to helping others as a Special Education Teacher, a role that reflected her patience, compassion, and generous spirit. A visitation will be held in the Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W. Main St., Leesburg, FL, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, with a Parastas Service at 5:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place in Hazleton, PA at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Freeland, PA. Barbara will be deeply missed by her family and friends and lovingly remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
