William Allen Miller
November 7, 1976 - March 22, 2022
William Allen Miller, 45, passed in peace at his Leesburg home, March 22nd. He will be missed by his dad, Jim Miller, Jim's siblings, step-mom, Donna, Donna's siblings and brothers, Andy Miller and Shane Price and the rest of the family. He will also be missed by his extraordinary loving friend, Jackie Turcsanyi and hundreds of other friends who loved him. He was predeceased by his mother, Joanne Keller. Bill has been totally paralyzed and on a ventilator for 24.5 years. Yet he still graduated from the University of Florida with honors. He then got his Master's Degree from Western Carolina University where he became an online teaching assistant. Bill and Claude Giguere invented the IKAN Bowler, a device that allowed Bill to bowl. It can be seen in action on Bill's website: Lookmomnohands.net. The bowler has brought joy to many disabled veterans and others. Bill was patient and kind, always trying to help others with what he could do on the computer. He focused on what he could do, not what he couldn't. He had a "no worries" philosophy that he shared with others. From 5/13/2020: What do you want to be remembered for in the event of your death? "That I always try to help people, which I believe is doing God's will. I try to have a positive impact where I can, and one thing about becoming a C1-2 vent-dependent quadriplegic is that it's given me a relatively unusual platform, and I think more opportunities to impact people positively. One reason why is because all people have to do is take one look at me in this giant wheelchair with the vent on back to know that I must have some different perspectives on life than they do. So, I think that helps people "hear" what I have to share." What happened? Wednesday, the 16th, we took Bill to the ER, because he was having trouble speaking, etc. They found a large mass in the left side of his brain. We've had two opinions and they didn't recommend surgery or other measures. They said he might have days, weeks, or months. He was awake for this news and said with his first sentence in a while, "I'm not worried." This has helped us to be at peace throughout his passing. Steroids helped bring his ability to speak back, so he got to say goodbye and enjoy his family and close friends on Saturday and Sunday. Monday night, I tucked Bill in with "Alexa - shuffle Bill's Jesus Music" and my "Goodnight Buster." When I went to turn him at 2 am, he had passed. He's carried the heavy burden of total paralysis for almost 25 years. He's finally put it down and moved on to heaven, where he's finally able bodied again. Good night, Buster. We love you. Go Gators! A viewing will be held in Beyers Funeral Home Chapel at 1123 W Main St, Leesburg on Tuesday March 29th from 5-7 pm. Save the Date! Bill wrote a book, which we will share at a Celebration of Life/Book Launching at the Venetian Center 5-7 pm (book launching and brief service at 6:30) on August 23, 2022, the 25th anniversary of his injury. Instead of flowers, please consider a non-tax-deductible donation in his memory, to his fellow quad friend, Rhonda Reese, payable to Rhonda's Benefit Trust Fund. Mail to Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W Main St. Leesburg, FL 34748.
