Terrance E Olson

Terrance E. “Terry” Olson, 86, of Umatilla passed away on July 31, 2022 surrounded by his family. Terry was born November 14, 1935 to Edwin and Elma Olson on a small farm in Stanley, North Dakota. Terry began his working career at the age of 13, after graduating from grammar school, working for large grain farmers in North Dakota. At the age of 20 he moved to Williston, North Dakota where he worked at a service station for a year , then leasing a service station from the Continental Oil Co. Terry stayed in this field for six years. In 1962 he started work with the Prudential Insurance Co. as a salesman. His first President’s Citation of many was in 1964. In 1968 he was promoted to Sales Manager transferred to Eau Claire, WI then quickly transferred to La Crosse, WI. I 1974 he and his staff of 12 agents were number one in their region. Later that year he transferred to central Florida and returned to focusing on insurance sales. He received a degree in Insurance Investments and Taxes from the American College of Financial Services in 1975. During his 32-year career with Prudential Terry received 30 President’s Citations for production along with many other awards. He retired from Prudential in 1994 and started an independent insurance agency, Olson Insurance and Financial Services, specializing in all insurance products and tax preparation services. When he chose to semi-retire his family continued to operate the business he had built and loved. His granddaughter Erica McNamme remains CEO of the agency, son Eric Olson is Vice President and pensions specialist and son Jerry Olson is Vice President and tax specialist. He was a longtime trustee of the Umatilla Police Pension Fund. Terry leaves his beloved wife Earlagene “Jeannie” Olson who he married in 1983. He also leaves sons Eric Olson, Jerry Olson, Bruce Mikell, Mason Mikell and a daughter Terri Hanson. There are 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Brian Olson and Gerald Olson and his sisters Darlene Howland and Joyce Evans and stepson Randy Mikell. A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm the First Baptist Church of Umatilla 550 Hatfield Drive, Umatilla Fl. A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, August 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Beyers Funeral Home 279 South Central Avenue Umatilla, FL. Donations in his memory may be made to the Florida State Elks Assoc. 24175 SE Highway 450 Umatilla FL 32784. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Umatilla.
