Monique Bernadette Smith Haymon

Monique Bernadette Smith Haymon, 86, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida passed away in Ocala, Florida on January 27, 2024. She was born in St. Jean, Canada on May 20, 1937 to Adrian Harbec and Germaine Ouimette. Her parents migrated to United States when she was 12 years old and unable to speak or write English. She and her sister started school attending first grade classes in a one room school house in Brownington, Vermont. Monique worked at an early age with several family members at the Ethan Allen factory in Orleans, Vermont before moving to Florida. There she became a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Bushnell, Florida. Monique worked as a CNA for many years at Lake Port Square in Leesburg and sincerely enjoyed taking care of people. She was an active member of the Lake Panasoffkee Moose lodge and spent numerous hours assisting the lodge with supporting the less fortunate. Given Monique never had the opportunity to attend high school as a child, she was extremely pleased to obtain the highest degree possible for a woman within the Moose organization. She felt it was one of her greatest achievements. Monique enjoyed traveling, cooking, singing and listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. She could be particular and liked things to be organized, clean and in a certain way. She is survived by her sons: Alan Vanier (Sue) of Newport Center, Vermont, John Vanier of Lebanon, New Hampshire, Dean Vanier (Shelli) of Orange, New Hampshire, Andrew Vanier (Sandi) of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; grandchildren: Sydney and Shea Vanier; great grandchildren: Blake and Connor; and best friend: Ellen Palmer of Webster, Florida. The family also wishes to recognize the caring staff at Camelot Chateau in Ocala who took Monique, having turned blind, under their wings and made her their “Mother CNA”. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or Cates Hospice House in Ocala Fl. A service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 1 PM at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
