Merrie C. Skinner, (63) of Umatilla, FL passed away on February 1, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Born January 31, 1959, in Eustis, Merrie graduated from Eustis High School. In 1978, at age 19, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at The University of Florida. She was a Senior Writer for the Feature Productions Service of the New York Times. Her work focused on environmental, health, and criminal justice issues. She descended from settlers of Massachusetts Bay Colony and Jamestowne and was a member of The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Land. Brothers: Stanley Skinner (Laurie) and Lane Skinner. Nephew Zackary Skinner. Great Aunts: Mai Hogan Kelton and June Dorman. She is predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Carol Hogan Skinner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares. Graveside services will be held later in Winchester, Tennessee.
