Marie Bertha Nichols

October 30, 1933 - May 6, 2022

Marie B. Nichols, 88, of Venice, Florida passed away peacefully at her home May 6, 2022 with family by her side. Marie was born October 30, 1933 in Northfield, VT to Joseph and Grace Dukette. She was preceded by her brothers, Raymond Dukette (Inez) and Everette Dukette (Betty) of Vermont. She is survived by her brother Henry Dukette (Jean) of Northfield, VT. Marie married Lawrence J. Nichols, Sr. of Cabot, VT. They dedicated their life to their 5 children. She managed a housekeeping staff at Howard Johnson, she worked at a nursing home where she managed a house keeping staff and at Merrill Lynch for many years. Lawrence preceded her on September 25, 2020. She is survived by 5 children: Lawrence J. Nichols and his wife Maria Nichols of Woburn, Mass., Barbara Riley of Sanford, Maine, Deborah Trask and Robert Trask of Sarasota, Florida, Janet Heffron and Brian Heffron of Moultonborough, NH, Paul Nichols and Laura Nichols of Burlington, Mass. Marie has 12 Grandchildren and 23 Great grandchildren. She spent precious time with all of them at one time or another. They adored her and enjoyed her fun personality. She took the family fish trophy for the largest fish caught on Winnipesaukee Lake in New Hampshire this past summer for the second time. She had lots of friends in her many adventures when her husband and she retired, starting with winter trips to Arizona, Vermont and Florida. She loved a good laugh and always surrounded herself with friends that enjoyed her joking. She could not enter a room without someone picking on her or her picking on them. Marie and her husband spent many years in Bushnell, Florida. She loved her Florida community and friends. She participated in many activities and was quick to jump in and help in running them. Her quick smile and great sense of humor drew many to her. She was a die-hard Red Sox fan for many years and didn’t miss very many games. Along with her love for family and friends Marie adored her pets. If you knew Marie, you knew Emmy, Amber and Sara. Marie along with her husband will be buried in The Center Cemetery in Hardwick, VT this fall on a date to be determined. Memorial donation suggestions can be made in Marie’s name to the American Heart Association in leu of flowers.
