Janice Marie Schuetz

Janice "Jan" Schuetz of Leesburg, FL passed away peacefully on September 30, 2019. She is survived by her three sons and their wives; Steve (Laura), Bill (Bonnie), and Rick (Cheree); four grandchildren, Brett, Hayley, Sam and Kasen. She also considered Jaime Naranjo, an exchange student from Colombia the family sponsored, her fourth son, and Jaime's family, adopted members of the Schuetz household. Jan was born near Valders, Wisconsin on February 3, 1934 and grew up on the family dairy farm. She proudly graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and worked as a medical technician until she left the field to be a full-time Mom. She cherished her role as a Mom and happily supported her boys in all of their endeavors and interests including Scouting, hunting, fishing, and all types of sports. She was a fixture at her sons' sporting events and was always their number one fan. Once the boys went off to college Jan returned to work and managed a medical clinic in her long time home of Janesville, Wisconsin. She loved to play cards, and the social atmosphere that surrounded the games. She was a highly skilled Bridge player and especially enjoyed the people she played with in Janesville and at Arlington Ridge. She also told the story often that she could not marry her longtime husband Al until she had leaned the Swiss card game called Yass. She happily mastered the game and enjoyed 60 years of playing with Al. Jan was also a fantastic cook. She learned well the skill when her mother, one of few woman college graduates at the time, went to work full time as a teacher and left her to take care of the family and hired hands on the farm. She even cooked for German soldiers during World War 2 who, as POWs, were put to work on the family farm. Jan loved to travel with Al, and with him visited many exotic and exciting countries. She was a lifelong Wisconsin Badgers and Packers fan. Most importantly, she loved her family. She will be greatly missed. The funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Leesburg, FL.
