Obituary of Winona Brown Winona "Winnie" Mae Brown, of Fruitland Park, was born October 7, 1927 in Wilna, New York and died November 15, 2014, in Sumterville, Florida. Winona was the proud mother of seven children: Billie Miner; Terry (Debbie) DeLancett, Sr.; Linda Brown (deceased), David (Suzanne) DeLancett, Jr., Ellen (LaVelle) Rixie, Chris (Kelly) DeLancett; Wendy (Russell) Kott (deceased). She had thirteen grandchildren -- Michael Miner; Terry DeLancett, Jr.; Charisse DeLancett; Kim Kimball; Stacey Brown; Sean DeLancett; Yvonne DeLancett; Lauren Rixie; William Brockmeyer; Jennifer Brockmeyer; Kevin Kott; Justin Kott; Kari Kott and several great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Earl J. Brown and Edith Shultz Brown and is predeceased by a her brothers Merle, Gerald and Howard Brown and one sister, Wanda Stevens. She is survived by her brothers Dolphus and Ronald Brown as well as many nieces and nephews. Very early in her life she was guided by her mother, Edith Brown, to "love the lord with all your heart and soul" and was a devoted member of the Jehovah Witnesses, attending services at the Kingdom Hall in Fruitland Park, Florida. In the 1960s, Winona moved from New York to Florida. For many years she raised her family and held various positions of employment. In the mid-1990's, she started her own business, Central Taxi in Leesburg when she was in her 60s--a time when most people are retiring. She owned and operated the taxi company into her late 70s, providing service to those in need--many times, free of charge. She felt her business was a way to help people and witness to them about Jehovah and the Truth. She also loved to entertain children who rode in her taxi (as well as her own children and grandchildren, when they were young) by singing her favorite ditty--the "Ice Cream Cone" song. Winona had a great sense of humor and lived by the motto, "Live and let live." She also quoted Revelation 21:4 often: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things have passed away." Winona will be buried at Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park. A memorial service will be held for her on Friday, December 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses, 502 Urick St Fruitland Park FL 34731. In lieu of flowers, Ms. Brown's family requests donations to be made to the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses.
