Obituary of Vincent Thomas Vincent John Thomas, 84 of Summerfield, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. He was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was a WWII US Coast Guard Veteran serving from 1943 to 1946. He served aboard the USS PETERSEN, a Destroyer Escort, in the American, European and Pacific Theaters. He was honorably discharged after three years of service. For 30 years he was a Police Officer of the New Milford, New Jersey Police Department and attained the rank of Deputy Chief. He was a Past Delegate of the New Jersey Police Benevolent Association Local 83. He was a member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion and a Life Member of the VFW Post 4290 in New Milford, NJ. He served 8 years as Court Officer in the Bergen County, New Jersey Court System. In 1993 he retired to Florida at Oak Meadows, The Villages, and then in 2003 he moved to Summerfield, FL. His wife, Claire predeceased him in September 1988. He is survived by his loving, faithful and long time companion Mae (Malia) Ridgely of Summerfield, FL; his Toy French Poodle, Lizzy Thomas; a former wife, Maria Thomas, Westwood, NJ; daughter, Carol Kearney Romeo, Nanuet, NY; 2 grandchildren: Nicolette and Dalton Kearney; son, Michael Thomas, and 2 "adopted" kids: Shawn and Mary Lynn Hayden. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel in Lady Lake, FL with a visitation prior to the service from 9:00 - 11:00 AM with Pastor Bill Campbell of Tri-County Worship Center officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
