Robert K. "Bob" Wingate

Robert K. “Bob” Wingate, age 93, passed away in April 2026, in Ocoee, Florida. A resident of Florida for more than fifty years, he most recently lived in the Winter Garden area. Born in 1932 in Auburndale, Florida, Bob was the youngest of seven children and spent his childhood in Florida, Massachusetts, New York, and Georgia. His life was characterized by service – to his family, to his country, and to God. Bob grew up loving the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports. He excelled in basketball, baseball, and track. After graduating from high school and junior college at a young age, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction for more than twenty years and retired as a Master Sergeant. In 1955, Bob married Elizabeth, the love of his life, and together they raised their children. Bob was a wonderful and beloved father to his children and their spouses. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership roles, including Bishop and High Councilor. Later, he and Elizabeth served a full-time mission together in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission, and he served in the Orlando Temple both before and after their mission. Bob was artistically creative and skilled at drawing, painting, and building things with his hands. He was known for his quick wit, his calm, steady presence, and for never complaining. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family, whom he loved deeply. He cherished many close friendships and was an active member of his church and community in central Florida. Throughout his life, he encouraged and uplifted those around him with love, kindness, and unwavering faith. His example of faith and devotion continues to bless his family and all who knew him. Bob is survived by loving family members across Florida and the Southeast. He was preceded in death by his siblings, his wife, a daughter, his granddaughter, and other beloved relatives. A funeral service will be held at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel in Lady Lake, Florida on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 10:30am-11:30am. A graveside service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park, Florida on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11:45am. Bob requested that instead of sending flowers, donations be made to either the Perpetual Education Fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The Wingate family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Bob’s many dear friends and Church leaders for their kindness, attentiveness, and care.
