Richard John Janssen

Obituary of Richard Janssen Richard (Dick) Janssen passed away on April 26, 2015, at the age of 69 in an Orlando, Florida area hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Marshall, Minnesota on April 11, 1946 to Peter and Mary (DeSutter) Janssen. Dick attended elementary schools in Minnesota and Ghent and is a 1964 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Marshall and Humboldt Airline Institute in Minneapolis. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and served for three years. As a Corporal, he became a rifle instructor and a land, hand to hand self-defense instructor. In 1968 he resumed his 44 year airline career receiving several accommodations working for Ozark, TWA and American in Minneapolis, Chicago and Orlando, where he lived since 1986. Dick was a member of the International Airline Club, the Ozark Airlines soft ball league, the Apple Valley Snowmobile Club and the Corvette Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and Corvettes, sports and travel. He is survived by his devoted wife, Annie of Orlando, five children, Scott of Melbourne, FL, Brian of Waukesha, WI, Tracy Barlage of Prior Lake, MN, Richard Jr. and Rachell Janssen both of Belle Plaine, MN, five grandchildren, Zachary, Carson and Brady Janssen and Jade Barlage, Becca Janssen; great-grandson, Hudson Janssen; two step-children, Douglas (Anna) Ruff of Amanda, OH, Sondra (Mike) Norris of Lancaster, OH, five step-grandchildren, Blake, Jordan and Kevin Ruff and Nicholas and Shawn Norris, his mother, Mary Janssen of Marshall, siblings, Priscilla (Hollis) Osborn, of Las Vegas, NV, Marilyn (David) Gannott of Marshall, Daniel (Joan) of Marshall, Gregory II (Jane) of Marshall and Steven (June) of Fergus, Falls, MN, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and four aunts. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter in 2008 and brother, Gregory I in 1953. Visitation Visitation will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 7th at the Purcell Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home, 114 W. Noble Ave. Bushnell, FL 33513. Services Services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Purcell Chapel with Father Waldemar Maciag officiating. Interment Burial with full military honors will be at 2:30 PM at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In Lieu Of In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall, MN or the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Project.
