Obituary of Richard Brown Richard E. Brown, Jr., 76, of Leesburg, Florida, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on August 12, 2010. Born in Madison County, Florida, he was a longtime resident of Leesburg and an Agent for State Farm Insurance for 43 years. A veteran of the US Army, he was stationed in Port Whittier, Alaska and then went on to receive his Bachelors of Political Science from FSU in 1959. As a member of First Baptist Church, Leesburg, he served in many capacities including Sunday School Director, Trustee, Deacon and Deacon Chairman. Additionally, he was very active in the Leesburg community as a member of Gideons International and member, Past President, Past Lieutenant District Governor and Legion of Honor recipient of the Noon Kiwanis Club. Mr. Brown was a Past President of the Boys Club of Leesburg, Moderator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida and served on the Florida Baptist State Board of Missions. A renaissance man, he enjoyed reading, writing, especially poetry, art, music and traveling globally with his wife. He was an avid golfer and ardent fan of FSU sports. Richard was a fun-loving, kind-hearted deeply spiritual man and a generous friend to many. He enjoyed several pheasant hunting trips to Iowa with his State Farm colleagues and appreciated his many friendships in the State Farm family. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joan of Leesburg, Florida; son Richard E. Brown, III, and wife Janan of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; daughter Laura Brown Young, and husband Daniel Te Young of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; granddaughters Nikki Richardson, Amber Brown, Madeline Young, Grace Li Young, and Lydia Rose Young; sister Esther B. Taylor of Landrum, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. His family and many friends are thankful for, and will treasure, the memories of the good times shared with him. Services A Memorial Service will be held on Monday August 16, 2010 at 3:30 PM in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Leesburg, Florida.
