Rebecca Oakes

Rebecca Oakes of Barre Town departed peacefully in the arms of her husband on February 19, 2023. Born to Bertha M. and Roger C. Ives in Johnson, Vermont on January 30, 1945. Becky started school in Johnson, Vermont; but before she began high school the family moved to Walpole, NH and Becky graduated from Walpole High School in 1963 with honors. Becky and Walter Oakes began a relationship in the spring of 1963 that would last a lifetime. Becky and Walter were married on May 30, 1964 in Derby, VT and made their first home in Drewsville, New Hampshire. On November 25, 1964 a son, Timothy was born and on October 14, 1966 a daughter, Kimberly was born. Becky’s interest was always on the family; she was a loving, caring, generous mother, grandmother and a friend to all who met her. She was always there to help family, extended family, and friends. She enjoyed family get-togethers, picnics, camping, travelling, a dinner with her husband, doing puzzles, and going to shows. She had a gift for home decorating, both our homes in Barre, VT and Leesburg, FL were comfortable and happy. She received many compliments on her home decorating style. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her fabulous cooking and baking; another way she showed her love. Becky’s family was brightened the day Kimberly gave birth to her daughter Jessica. Jessie always had so much love to give, Becky and Jessie spent many hours together. While babysitting, they would play and Becky would read her many stories. Later, Jessie would come back to live with Becky and Walter and she brought joy and love to their household. Becky’s love for animals would also get spiked when Jessie rescued a long-hair chihuahua two years ago. The little fella, as Becky would call it, hit-it-off together from day one; just maybe because Becky loved to give-out treats. She is survived by her husband of Barre Town, Walter; her son, Timothy Oakes and his wife Stephanie of Northfield, VT, her daughter, Kimberly Nelson and her husband, Jerry of Barre Town; her granddaughter, Jessica Oakes of Barre Town; her sister, Arlene Pariseau of Rutland, VT; her brother-in-law, Lee Oakes and his wife Jenn, of Leesburg, FL; nieces, grand nieces, nephews, grand nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Roger Ives and her brother, Roger Cedric Ives. We have no doubt she will be watching over all of us and sending down love. Per her wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A mass and burial service will be announced at a later date. She will be buried in the Saint Sylvester Catholic Cemetery in Barre Town.
