Patricia C. Percival

Patricia Ann (Pat) Percival (90) died peacefully in the presence of her devoted husband, Fred L. Percival, at the Lakeview Terrace Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her five children and their spouses: Fred D. Percival and Margaret Barnicle, Chris Percival, Ann Percival and Eunice Johnson, Joseph and Ellen (Dooher) Percival, and John and Elizabeth (Wixson) Percival; five nieces and nephews (Kevin Rush, Lawrence Rush, Thomas Rush, Susan Miller and Eileen Rush; and her cousin Liz Brown and best friend Annette Bichè. She was predeceased by her niece, Noni Rush King and her cousin, Judy Smith. Pat was born in Syracuse, NY to Gerald and Claire Creveling Cunningham on August 28, 1928. She was raised by her grandparents David and Mary Ann Cunningham and her aunt and uncle, Hazel and Harry Shepard. She grew up in Eastwood and attended Cathedral High School. At the Cathedral High School and Christian Brothers' Academy Valentine's Day Dance she had her first dance and first date with Fred Percival on February 13, 1945. She and Fred shared the memory of that happy event in the last few days of her life. After graduating from Cathedral, Pat attended Central City Business Institute (CCBI). Upon graduation she was employed by WSYR as executive secretary to the vice president of the company. Fred and Pat were married on July 29, 1950, by her uncle, the Most Reverend David F. Cunningham at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. Pat left her work at WSYR to raise their growing family. She was a devoted wife and mother who centered her life around her family. When she had free time she enjoyed reading, swimming, golfing, cross-country skiing, and hiking. She knitted and crocheted and would sometimes paint. She enjoyed dancing (Is that right, Dad?) and could often be heard singing along with the radio. When the children were all grown she joined Fred at work by running the Crafts Department of their Elbridge Variety Store until they retired in 1993. Upon retirement they relocated to Lake Wales, Florida, and then in 2007 moved to Lakeview Terrace in Altoona, Florida. Pat formed warm and lasting friendships with other residents of LVT. She always had a warm smile and a ready hello to give to the residents, workers and caregivers. It was important to her to call everyone by name and to express her appreciation for whatever they did for her and for LVT overall. She was loved by many and will be missed by many well beyond the circle of her family. The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff at the Lakeview Terrace Rehabilitation Center and Cornerstone Hospice in the last few weeks of her life.
