Nunzio T. Maiorana

Nunzio Thomas Maiorana, formerly of Medina, New York, died peacefully Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home in The Villages, Florida. He was born May 21, 1940 in Lockport, New York, the son of Salvatore and Bertha Maiorana. He graduated from DeSales Catholic High School, Lockport, New York in 1958 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit in 1963. He continued his education with master's degrees earned from Brockport State University and the University of Buffalo. Nunzio began his teaching career in the Diocese of Detroit at St. John Berchmans School and subsequently joined the Medina Central School district in the fall of 1963, teaching at Medina Senior High School. He went on to serve in multiple roles during his tenure at Medina Central: teaching pre-vocational studies, English, and history; serving as an assistant high school football coach; assistant principal; director of athletics, maintenance and grounds, and transportation; principal of Wise Middle School; as well as superintendent of curriculum and finance. He also sat on state and national committees for athletics and academics to ensure safety, wellness, and rigorous academic instruction for all students. He took great pride in serving the students and community of Medina. He retired in 1998 from Medina Central. After retiring, he and his wife, Charlotte Palisano Maiorana, moved to Chautauqua, New York and later to The Villages, Florida where he continued to serve his communities. He sat on and chaired the homeowners' associations in both communities. With education and teaching being his true passion, Nunzio was employed with Golf and Country Club Operations in The Villages as a lead instructor until his death Nunzio is without a doubt a great individual, a gregarious man with an infectious laugh and a good sense of humor. He was a dedicated professional who was on a mission to provide his students with the best possible education and his determination, temerity, and discipline always succeed him. It didn't matter who you were, everyone knew him and everyone loved him. Nunzio is survived by Charlotte, his wife of 56 years; three children, David Maiorana (Sandra) of New Jersey, Joseph (Lisa) Maiorana of Belgium, and Ann-Marie (Jay) Towell of Texas; as well as five grandchildren; Michel Maiorana, Alyssa (Joshua) Robles, Emiley Maiorana, Collin Towell, McKayla Towell; his brother Larry (Mary) Maiorana of Nevada and Sister Camille (John) Pasceri of New York. His father and mother Salvatore and Bertha Maiorana and his sister Freda Maiorana predeceased him. A memorial mass will be held on April 4, 2018 at 11am at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Lockport, New York where Nunzio was baptized, confirmed, served as an altar boy, and was married. A luncheon will follow immediately after the memorial mass service.
