Nancy Carolyn Thompson

Nancy Carolyn Thompson graduated to heaven peacefully on June 12, 2019 in Oxford, FL at the age of 86. Carolyn, as she was known to all, is survived by her children Delores, Burt, Sandra and Jason. Her sister Sylvia. Grandchildren Shanan, Karah, Karlyn, Jacob, Corey, Miranda, Kaitlyn, Jeremiah, Philip and Madeline. Great Grandchildren Morgan, Jaydon, Jaymie, Liam, Ellie and Axton. Carolyn was born on March 15, 1933 in Catawba, NC to James Preston Harwell and Julia Mae Crawford. As a young girl growing up on a rural North Carolina farm she spent much of her time tending to the necessary daily tasks such as milking cows and seasonal ones like picking cotton. When not partaking in these chores she was known for her "rabbit" like speed on the basketball court. As life moved on, Carolyn gracefully navigated her way through an assortment of passions. Being quite the socialite, she participated in the Welcome Wagon, Junior Women's Club and led Brownie & Girl Scout Troops. Not one to shy away from her views, Carolyn was at one time the Lake County Republican Committee chairman and a representative at multiple Republican National Conventions. Her very creative mind led her down paths of sketching, painting and even as a seamstress in making prom dresses for her granddaughters. Professionally Carolyn loved the world of art and design. Early on she was an interior designer for companies such as Sears and Decorating Den. Later she followed her love of art by working in galleries from Leesburg to Orlando. Personally, Carolyn was a devout Christian and prayer warrior, a jovial personality, harborer of those in need and wonderful mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be remembered as a beautiful soul whose radiance transcended as an example to follow for generations to come. A celebration of life is scheduled for June 15, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the First Baptist of Leesburg Chapel, with a reception to follow at The Palace, 410 W Main St, 3rd Floor, Leesburg, FL 34748. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carolyn's life.
