Matthew Christopher Garrepy

Matthew Christopher Garrepy, a true Florida Native and resident of Bushnell, FL passed away on April 2nd, 2023, at the age of 25 years. He was born to Kevin Garrepy and Christina (Nelson) Hale on March 27th, 1998, in Leesburg, FL. He was a graduate from the University of Florida, achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Matthew was an Administrative Assistant and Research Coordinator in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology, College of Public Health and Health Professions at his graduating university. He always had his sights set on success, from the time he was a Boy Scout and achieving the title of Eagle Scout, to graduating from the top Florida university, to learning to play the guitar and saxophone, to recently tackling the Spanish language and much more. Matthew was an extremely hard worker and was devoted to anything he set his mind to. He loved to stay active and keep himself busy. Matt would longboard every Friday with his fiancée D’Anna and friends, and train at his local Jiu Jitsu gym five days a week. Matthew was incredibly artistic in nature, he would draw everyday and was creating an animated show with his best friends Micah and Paxton. He also enjoyed cooking, making dishes ranging from Southern American to Colombian to Korean cuisine, he never backed down from the challenge. Being one grade above his little sister, Katie Garrepy, in school, he always set the bar high for her entering all of his past classes—every teacher knew the name Garrepy and were excited they would have another Garrepy in their classroom. Matthew made an impression on everyone he met, always giving them his undivided attention and making everyone he met feel special and cared for. He never met a stranger and had a heart for others. Matthew was preceded in passing by his grandfathers, Donald Nelson and Earle Garrepy. Those left to celebrate and remember Matthew’s life are his parents: Christina “Christy” Hale (step-father, Larry) of Bushnell, FL and Kevin Garrepy of Orlando, FL; his sister: Katie Garrepy (Ryan) of Jacksonville, FL; his step-siblings: Ricky Bates (Chris) of Orlando, FL and Troy Hale of Fort Meyers, FL; his loving fiancée: D’Anna Lopez of Gainesville, FL; his grandmothers: Sylvia Nelson and Gail Garrepy; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, from 4-6 PM at Purcell Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home, of Bushnell, FL. A Memorial Mass honoring Matthew’s life will take place on Thursday, April 13th, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Bushnell, FL, with Father Pedro officiating. Matthew will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery of Bushnell, FL following the services.
