Mary A. Penny

Mary A. "Molly" Penny, 80, passed away June 13, 2018, while under the loving care of Cornerstone Hospice 601 Casa Bella, The Villages after a courageous six year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Molly graduated from Bloomsberg State Teachers College in 1959 with a degree in education. She taught high school business courses in Pennsylvania and Delaware from 1959 until 1968 when she retired from teaching to be with her children until they reached school age. She returned to teaching in 1975 and retired again in 1978. She worked at Winterthur Museum in Delaware during 1978-80, sold real estate in Delaware during 1980-81 and then worked for DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware from 1981 thru 1989. Molly lived in and around The Villages during the last twenty-seven years. She lived in four different homes in The Villages and a home in Water Oak. During those years, she was a member of a tap dance group, a snorkeling group, a cheerleading group, a clown group (she chose the name "Snicker" for herself), a term as president of the Pennsylvania Club, volunteered at Christian Food Pantry and Love, Inc. and was a member of Fairway Christian Church. She enjoyed playing golf, playing mah-jongg, reading, extensive worldwide travel, eating dinner at any of the many good restaurants in the area, and attending concerts, plays and opera in The Villages and central Florida. Molly is survived by William "Bill" Edmonds, her second husband, companion and caregiver during the last thirty years; two sons, Walter Penny of San Antonio, Texas and Darren Penny of Jupiter, Florida; her first husband Walter Penny, Sr. of The Villages; a brother, Michael Mattern of Duxbury, Massachusetts; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents John and Alice (Swan) Mattern; a sister, Jeanne Chaney and a brother, John Mattern. Her other sister, Margaret Glennon passed away on August 22, 2018. Molly's cremation was performed by the Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory of Lady Lake, Florida. Based on Molly's wishes, part of her remains will be spread over the ocean off the coast of Delaware at a future date. She owned a summer home in South Bethany Beach, Delaware for many years and enjoyed memories of living there with her family. The balance of her remains will be buried in Lower Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Lady Lake, FL.
