Marie Virginia Bastien

The world became much less colorful in the early morning of Saturday, January 13, 2024. After a long battle with heart and kidney disease, Marie Virginia Bastien, 72, of The Villages, went to join her parents, her brother, Bart, and grandson, Jonathan, in heaven. Marie was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 15, 1951, to her loving parents, Arthur Edward Kinlein and Virginia Grob Kinlein. The youngest of three children, Marie was the apple of her mother’s eye. A bright and bubbly young woman, Marie attended Mercy High School in Baltimore before going on to graduate from Loyola University Maryland’s Class of 1973. After college, she worked as a Purchasing Agent for Optic, a Baltimore-based book binding company, and spent her young adulthood traveling across the country and the world, making friends everywhere she went. Not a woman to be put into a box, Marie wore many hats in her life. She channeled her joy and energy into her work, and went on to become an aerobics instructor before finally settling into her favorite role of all - wife and mother. On October 22, 1988, Marie married the love of her life, Ernest “Woody” Bastien, and the two settled down in Linthicum, Maryland. A few years later, they welcomed Marie’s dream come true: a healthy baby girl - her daughter, Becky. Marie was ever-devoted and thrived as a mother, and could always be seen helping out around St. Philip Neri during Becky’s gradeschool days, and never missed a single recital, practice, or concert. If you didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Marie for her big heart or her outrageous sense of humor, you certainly knew her from her sense of style. Marie was never without a technicolor outfit, statement earrings, and an infectious smile; everyone who came into contact with Marie felt her light. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Woody, her daughter Becky and child-in-law Cameron, her sister Sue, her stepdaughter Laurie and son-in-law George, grandchildren Amber, Candace, Joshua, Victoria, and Karah, and great-grandchildren Brooklynn, Ashley, Gianna, Lucia, and Jonny. She also leaves behind her beloved fur-kids, Harvey and Opie, as well as more dear friends than one could count. A Celebration of Life will be held back in Maryland.
