Marian Meeks

It is with great sadness that the family of Marian L. Meeks announces her passing on Tuesday, August 14th 2018 at the age of sixty- nine from pneumonia. Mary was also known by all that loved her as Memaw or Miss Mary. Mary lost the love of her life and best friend Charlie Nathaniel Meeks on May 27th 1989. She never remarried believing that she had already known her soul mate. She and Charlie shared a love like no other. Mr. Meeks was a strong man, loving father and husband and veteran of our armed forces. We thank him for his service. Mary will be forever remembered by her children, Chris and his bride (Heather) who was like a daughter to her, Lisa and Doug. She will be lovingly remembered as well by her eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Mary is survived by two siblings Gordon and Tommy and many very close friends. Our beloved Mary was born in Canton, Ohio on March 13th, 1949 and moved to Florida at a young age. She retired from the Orange County Public Schools after thirty years of work in transportation management. She was passionate about her job, enriching many young lives and will be truly missed by all of her colleagues and friends that are more like family than ex coworkers. Mary lived with her son Chris and his family in Yalaha, Florida where she loved to fish and swim with her friends and family in what she called her "paradise". She loved to shop and was very proud of being a part of her community. She will truly be missed by each life that she touched in that community and the wonderful memories she left us all with. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and the light of her life. She could regularly be found watching her grandchildren engaged in their many sports and activities with a delightful smile on her face. Mary fought and won her battle with ovarian cancer with her family by her side. She never let cancer get the best of her. She was one tough lady and her determination and love of life will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life with friends and family and food will be held on Saturday, August 18th 2018 at the club house in her community. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 20th 2018 at 4:00pm with a gathering of friends and family beginning at 3:00pm.
