Lucienne Catherine & Charles Walter Robinson

Lucienne Robinson, 86, of The Villages, Florida, passed peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 19th. Her husband of 56 years, Charlie Robinson, 84, of The Villages, preceded her in death on April 24, 2020. Due to COVID restrictions, the family could not honor his life then with a public service. Charlie and Lucienne are survived by their children Karen (Mike), Chuck (Nicolle), Beth (Charlie), and Jim (Danielle); their grandchildren Catherine, Michael (Frankie), Ryan, Devin, Caitlin, Kylie, Lily, Daniel, and Emme; their niece and nephews Catherine, Alain, and Henry in France, and Jeff in the United States along with their families. Charlie was born in 1936 in Queens, New York, lived on Long Island with his family, and graduated from Valley Stream High School in 1953. He attended Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1957 with a bachelor’s in commerce and finance. After graduation, Charlie moved to New York City and began his career as a cost accountant. Lucienne was born in 1937 in Paris, France. She evacuated with her family to the United States at the start of World War II aboard the SS Washington. They arrived safely in New York Harbor and settled in Rutherford, New Jersey, where Lucienne grew up. She graduated from Rutherford High School in 1954 and then attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She earned her bachelor’s in home economics in 1958 and moved to New York City to work as a retail buyer. Lucienne and Charlie met in New York City and got engaged in 1962 before he moved to work in Saigon, South Vietnam. Lucienne joined Charlie, and they married in 1963 in the Saigon Cathedral. While Charlie supported the construction of airfields and military bases, Lucienne was a buyer for the Navy Exchange in Saigon. They spent an eventful year together in Saigon surviving the Buddhist Monk crisis, the 1963 South Vietnamese Military Coup, and several local Viet Cong attacks. In 1964, Charlie and Lucienne returned to the United States and started their family. While raising four children, they lived in various towns throughout the country including Hackensack, New Jersey; Wappingers Falls, New York; Kennewick, Washington; West Milford, New Jersey; and finally retiring to The Villages, Florida. Lucienne was a passionate reader and thoroughly enjoyed discussing books and leading Villages book clubs. She loved to spend time with her family, socialize with friends, and golfing. When their grandchildren visited, Lucienne planned exciting activities to keep them busy. Visits to their home included her famous baked ziti, swimming in the neighborhood pools, and of course, dancing on The Square. Lucienne was an inspiration to all who knew her. Even in the most difficult circumstances, she maintained her gracious, loving spirit and enjoyed life. We will miss her. Charlie was a member of several Villages clubs and served as the treasurer for the De La Vista North Club. He kept informed on current events, and enjoyed Broadway Theater. Charlie especially loved sharing about his experiences in Vietnam. With Lucienne, he presented a slideshow and talk to various groups interested in Saigon and the Vietnamese people. Charlie would prepare golf cart scavenger hunts of all the interesting Villages yard art for his grandchildren and made sure the golf carts were charged and ready to go the moment they arrived. He left a legacy of generosity and devotion to family. We have greatly missed him, but we know his reunion with Lucienne was joyous. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, in the chapel at Beyers Funeral Home (134 N US Highway 441, Lady Lake, FL 32159). Family and friends are invited to a reception immediately following the service at Palmer Legends Country Club (1635 Palmer Way, The Villages, Florida 32162). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie and Lucienne’s names to the Hospice of Marion County or the Friends of the Lady Lake Library.
