Obituary of Lorena Douglas Lorena "Lorie" Rowe Douglas, 86, of Lady Lake, FL., died Monday, February 28, 2011 of natural causes. She was born to the late Halford and Mildred (Rood) Rowe, April 18, 1924 in Cortland, New York. Lorie grew up in McGraw, NY, where she attended high school and later received her BA in Elementary Education at The State University of New York at Cortland. She married her high school sweetheart the late Glenn C. Douglas in 1944 to whom she was married for the next 65 years. During that time, they lived in Binghamton, Albany and Manlius, NY, before relocating to Lady Lake, FL in 1995. Lorie was an eighth grade teacher at The Albany Academy for Girls, teaching English and History. Lorie was an active member of The Community United Methodist Church of Fruitland Park, FL. She, along with her husband Glenn, volunteered many hours tutoring children in the after school program at the church. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Women's Group. She had a life-long love of travel, the outdoors, gardening and enjoyed walking her beloved dog Deeni. She was often heard expressing her love, thanks and gratitude for her good friends, Nancy and "Perk" Perkins. Lorie is survived by her four children: daughter and son-in-law Danni and Scott MacClure of Glenview, IL, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Francine Douglas of Cave Creek, AZ, son and daughter-in-law David and Anne Douglas of Bloomingburg, NY and daughter and son-in-law Judy and Hank Sinnamon of Palm Beach, FL. She is also survived by five grandchildren Robert MacClure III, Christopher MacClure, Ian MacClure, Cameron Douglas and Alecia Douglas and one great-grandchild, Austin MacClure. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 11, 2011 at Community United Methodist Church, Fruitland Park, FL. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, it was Lorie's wish that donations be made to The Community United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 309 College Avenue, Fruitland Park, FL 34731.
