In Loving Memory of Colonel Lee (Barney) Bernhard Colonel Lee (Barney) Bernhard, a distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force, bid farewell to this world on the 16th of June 2023. His courageous spirit, unwavering dedication, and remarkable contributions will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his illustrious career and personal life. Born Loudonville Ohio in 1935, Colonel Bernhard exemplified the true essence of honor and service. He joined the United States Air Force in 1959 after graduating from the Ohio State University with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Throughout his service, Colonel Bernhard exhibited exceptional leadership, unmatched professionalism, and a profound love for his country. Beyond his military accomplishments, Colonel Bernhard cherished his role as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, true friend to many, and an accomplished businessman. For 53 wonderful years, he shared a deep and loving bond with his cherished wife, Jan. Their enduring partnership served as an unwavering foundation of love, support, and mutual admiration. Colonel Bernhard leaves behind a legacy of love and strength within his family. His children, Dan Bernhard, Amy Harrell, Brian Bernhard, Doug Bernhard, and Colonel Bill Bernhard, Grandsons Liam and Blake and sister Mary Alice Perone will forever cherish the memories of their remarkable father, grandfather and brother. Colonel Bernhard's wisdom, guidance, and unwavering presence will continue to guide them in their lives, reminding them of the importance of integrity, humor, spirit of adventure, and love. Colonel Lee (Barney) Bernhard will forever be remembered as a true patriot, a dedicated organizer of social groups, and a caring family man. His indomitable spirit and selfless acts of service will continue to inspire generations to come. While he may have taken his final steps off of the 18th green, his legacy will remain alive in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of Colonel Lee (Barney) Bernhard, let us also celebrate his remarkable life, the impact he made, and the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his family and loved ones find solace in the cherished memories they shared with him. A memorial service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell) on August 3rd at 11:00am. Those interested in attending the funeral should meet at the Beyers Funeral Home (134 US-441 Lady Lake, FL) at 9:30am. There will be a celebration of life event at Evans Prairie Country Club from 12:30-2:30pm following the memorial.
