June Young Meade

Obituary of June Young Meade June Meade, age 92 years, died at her home in Leesburg, Florida, December 21, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ben E Meade, and by her brother, Robert Young, of Whittier, California. She is survived by her three sons: Donald and his wife Sharon of Alvin, Texas, Robert and his wife Christine of Leesburg, Florida, and Kenneth and his wife Kelli of Paia, Hawaii. She has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. June was born February 2, 1919, in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, to Thomas and Rosa Young. She grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. She married Ben Meade in 1941. June was always active in community and civic organizations. When her children were young, she was a leader in Cub Scouts, PTA and church organizations. Later in life she served as president of the United Methodist Women, Church Women United, president of Federated Women's Club and was a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as regent in the DAR from 1986 " 1988. She was a 52-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a member of Chapter FC in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Chapter ET in Leesburg, Florida. She was an avid genealogist and one of her proudest accomplishments was her research and compilation of the family genealogy. She recorded stories for her family and wrote a history of our ancestors. Burial will be in Ponca City, Oklahoma, alongside her husband Benny at a later date. A memorial service will be held in Leesburg on Thursday, December 29 at 10:00 in the morning at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel.
