Julitta "Juli" Euphemia Velton

Juli was known as graceful, gentle, and beautiful. While she was very family oriented, she was also proud of her long nursing career. Julitta Euphemia Velton, age 91 of Leesburg, FL died of natural causes on June 21st, 2026. She was born in Long Island, Bahamas on July 17th, 1934, to Cecil Fox and Angelina Knowles, who always made her feel loved, supported and disciplined. She was the second youngest of five girls, Edna, Hazel, Sylvia, Julitta, and Gracie. She was minutes older than her twin sister Gracie She remembers working in the field with her twin sister, Gracie and her Daddy. When dinner was ready, Mummy would ring a bell to let everyone nearby know that dinner was ready. She attended a small schoolhouse in Long Island which taught all age groups. Once she was ready for college, she attended nursing school and graduated with an RN degree from Princess Margaret Hospital on May 10th, 1956. After some time working there, she was accepted on an exchange program in Detroit Michigan and became a board-certified orthoptist and continued this line of work until her retirement at the age of 56. Juli met her loving and only husband Ronald Velton in the seventies in Nassau, Bahamas. They dated for many years and eventually married on Halloween when they were in their fifties. They had many fun vacations and cruises in their years together. In 2017 Julitta became a widow when Ron passed away peacefully with her by his side at their home. Juli only had one child, her son Peter Mayrhofer, whose father was Ralph Mayrhofer from Munich, Germany. This relationship was before she had met Ron. Juli was preceded in death by her son in 2020 due to an addiction related death and she was very much devastated. Julitta had four stepchildren through her husband Ron: Sonia, Niel, Ross, and Mark. Though Juli wore many “hats” in life, being a grandmother was as much of a joy to her as being a mother. She was preceded in death by her beloved and brilliant oldest grandson, Peter Albert in the year 2002 from a car accident at the age of 19 years old, and this loss was heavy on her heart. Peter’s sister, Leah Ryan, was her only granddaughter, and Leah knows how much her grandma Juli loved her. She is attending Nursing School to follow in her grandma’s footsteps which made Juli proud. While Juli loved her youngest grandson, Dustin, he struggled with addictions for many years which made their relationship difficult. Julitta had many nieces and nephews, and she loved them all and made effort throughout her life to stay connected with all of them. She was very close with all and was especially close with her twin sister Gracie’s children, Maria and Gisela; she was preceded in death by their brother Earnst. She had lovely friends in Leesburg who visited her often and helped her with many favors over the years. Peggy had been her friend for many decades. They would go out to shop, eat at restaurants, and visit each other’s homes. Tammy was not just her local banker but was her good friend for many years. Tammy’s mom Patty became good friends with Juli as well and provided many years of help. Connie Buhl was another friend and caretaker who always looked out for Juli and provided both friendship and caregiving for years. They are all very much appreciated by Juli’s granddaughter. Juli will always be remembered for her laughter that rang like a bell, her fantastic sense of fashion, always looking neat and well-dressed when leaving the house, her gentleness and grace, and her love of family. Julitta Euphemia Velton was preceded in death by her mother Angelina, her father Cecil, her sisters Edna, Gracie, Sylvia, and Hazel. She was preceded in death by her son, Peter senior, and her grandson Peter jr. Her nephew Ernst preceded her death along with several other beloved friends and extended family. Her Service will be Saturday, July 25, 2026, 11:00 AM at the St. James Episcopal Church 204, Lee Street, Leesburg, FL 34748. The internment of her ashes will immediately follow the service and will be located at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1901 County Rd 25-A, Leesburg, FL 34748.
