Obituary of Jose Galdo José A. Galdo, 90, of the Village of Glenbrook, went home to God on Saturday September 5, 2015. He is survived by his wife Margarita "Mimi" (Romero) Galdo; children Joe Galdo and wife Nancy, Gabriel Galdo and wife Debbie, Maria Elena Galdo, and Querido "Tito" Galdo and wife Molly; grandchildren Joe Galdo and wife Paula, Julia Galdo, Michael Galdo and wife Anne, Adriana Galdo Adams and husband Steven, and Gigi Galdo; and great-grandchildren Nola, Mina, and Cade Adams, Gabriel and Elise Galdo and a sweet baby girl on the way. José was born April 16, 1925 in Cárdenas, Cuba, and spent his childhood there and in Havana. José loved the ocean, enjoyed hand line fishing and taught himself to swim. As a young man he represented Cuba as a swimmer in the Pan American and Olympic games and received a scholarship to Columbia University in New York, where he taught Navy recruits how to swim in preparation for WWII deployment. José then returned to Havana, met and married Maria R. "Poli" Casuso, and had four children. After the communist takeover of Cuba he succeeded in safely smuggling his family out of the country to begin a new life in Miami, where he had a fifth child. José's life took yet another unexpected turn when he lost Poli to cancer. He met and married Margarita in 1971 and began a new chapter in his life. He continued growing his career in freight forwarding, being one of the first in his industry to recognize the opportunities in the advent of container shipping. José eventually sold his successful business, retired, and moved to the Villages where he and Mimi enjoyed golf, new friends and his prayer group. José leaves behind family and community who will dearly miss his dry wit, quiet strength, and mean dance moves.
