John Ley

Obituary of John Ley Ley, John Peter of Wildwood, FL passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the age of 89. Mr. Ley was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, the son of the late Peter Paul and Catherine Margaret(Reiling)Ley. He was married to the late Helen(Loughrey)Ley for 51 years prior to her passing in 2001. John is survived by his five children: John P.(Anne)Ley, Jr. of Smyrna GA; Richard P.(Barbara)Ley of Wexford PA; Carol A. Ley of Wildwood FL, Daniel L. (Becky)Ley of Key Biscayne FL; and Bonnie(Richard)Schwarzkopf of Oak Park VA, along with 12 grandchildren: Leah Ley; Kevin(Joanne)Ley; Eileen(Matt)Griffin; Laura Barnes; Ashley Kenney; Christopher Fortin; Daniel Ley; Andrew Ley; Amanda Ley; Jennifer Schwarzkopf; Natalie Schwarzkopf; and Christina Schwarzkopf along with four great-grandchildren: Deirdre Marsh; Gillian Ley; Daryn Ley; and Claire Griffin. Mr. Ley was also survived by two of his four sisters, Lois Hale of Nashville TN and Rose Marie Ley of Cleveland OH along with numerous nieces and nephews located throughout the United States. John was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army Air Corps then graduated from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University) and went on to a long career as a mechanical engineer with companies in Pittsburgh, PA and Chicago, IL. In 1998, John and Helen retired to Continental Country Club in Wildwood FL where he was an avid golfer and enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, especially the Orlando Magic. John was a quiet, dignified gentleman who loved and was loved by his family and friends. During his final days at home Mr. Ley received outstanding care from the staff of Cornerstone Hospice and donations can be made to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
