Jeffrey Duncan Parker

Jeffrey Duncan Parker, 68, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away on May 11, 2021, after a brief illness. He is survived by Gail, his wife of nearly 40 years; his mother Jean, of Mount Dora; sister Amy Parker-Flinn (Billy), of Rocky Point NY; brothers Scott (Janice) of Slidell LA, Keith (Angela) of Leesburg FL and Bruce of Fort Lauderdale, FL; cousin Andrea; many in-laws, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many friends. In 1975 Jeff was in an auto accident in Arizona which left him paralyzed from the waist down. This never slowed him. He went to college and technical school and became an electronics engineer in telecommunications. He began his career in 1979 with Coherent Communications on Long Island, and stayed with the company for 38 years, throughout several mergers and acquisitions, until retiring in 2017. He traveled extensively for work, visiting at least 46 states, and 22 countries throughout Asia, North and South America and Europe. He obtained his private pilot's license in the early nineties, and was certified for both visual and instrument flying. He owned a 4-seater Piper Arrow and enjoyed flying as often as possible. Jeff was born on June 23, 1952 on Long Island, NY, and raised in Hicksville, NY, where he bought the family home and resided until 1995. He was transferred to company headquarters in Leesburg, VA and lived there until 2007, when he was transferred again to the new company headquarters in Naperville IL. He stayed there until his retirement in 2017, then he and Gail relocated to Florida. Jeff joined the Knights of Columbus in 2002, and became a Fourth Degree Knight the following year. He was a founding member of the Saint John Paul II Assembly in Sterling VA, was an officer in several councils and assemblies, and at the time of his death was Financial Secretary for the Saint Patrick Council in Mount Dora. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and auto racing. He loved technology of all sorts, being mechanically and technically knowledgeable in many areas. He was always willing to help when needed. He was generous to family and friends, and was a genuinely good man. He will be missed very much. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday May 24, 2021 at 9:00am at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Dora. A Celebration of Jeff's life will be held at a later date.
