Jean Williams Vail

Vail, Jean Williams, age 90, of The Villages, Lady Lake, FL, formerly of Girard, PA, passed away on April 13, 2023. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by family after a courageous 13-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. Jean was born in Erie, PA to Charles and Addie Williams. She lived in the historical side of The Villages, formerly known as Orange Blossom Gardens, for 36 years. She is preceded in death by William (Bill) Vail, her husband of 48 years, and her sister Marjorie Sasala. She is survived by her children: Pamela Vail (Jaime Diaz) and children Paul (Anna Harry) and Philip Vail; Sandra Vail and daughter Jacey Vail Meador (Noah); Rebecca Vail Anderson (Dr. Robert); and Dr. William Vail (Beverly) and children William Vail (Amanda) and Elizabeth Garcia (Aaron); 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Our mother enjoyed summers boating with family and friends on Lake Erie, the Clarion River, Georgian Bay, Canada, Lake Keuka, NY, and annual boating vacations. Less than six months prior to her passing, family enjoyed watching her “captain” the boat at her 90th Birthday Celebration weekend at Amelia Island, FL. Throughout her life she enjoyed holidays decorating, baking, and cooking for family, traveling with Dad and later with her children, bowling, water walking, crossword puzzles, and reading. When her children were small, she volunteered with various organizations including Girl Scouts, the Erie Playhouse, and Sunnyside Home for Girls. Jean faced cancer with grit and fortitude and was an example of strength and courage to those around her. She will be dearly missed, but we are comforted knowing she now rests in the arms of the Lord and with her loved ones who have gone before her. The family would like to express their gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice of The Villages, their RN Jessica, and to John Santos PA of The Villages for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank her doctors and nurses at Cleveland Clinic Florida, especially her long-time oncologist, Dr. Timmy Nguyen, for the care and support they provided throughout her entire battle. Jean will be interred with her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. There will be no services per our mother’s wishes. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society-Ovarian Cancer or to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home of Lady Lake, Florida.
