Jane L Scovil

Jane L. Scovil, 92, passed away peacefully at her home at Live Oak Ranch, Umatilla on October 22, 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 7, 1930, and moved to Live Oak Ranch 63 years ago with her husband Richard and her three small children. They joined her parents who had moved to the Florida ranch in 1951 and she began her horseback riding business, giving lessons and trail rides to many horse enthusiasts throughout the county. Jane was also involved in the Umatilla Community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chair of the Chapel Restoration Committee, and she along with others facilitated the application process to get the Chapel on the Historical Registry. She participated in the initiation of the Emergency Bank which collected household items and clothing to give to the needy, Years later she would participate as a founding member of the Lake County Humane Society, and she continued as Foundation Board Member until her death. Jane was a member of a Ladies Bridge club for 50+ years, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, the Cattlewoman’s Association, the Lake County Horseman’s Association, and the Big Scrub Riders. As Jane was raising her children, she worked with other mothers to start the first girl Scout Troop 95 in Umatilla which met for years at the Methodist Church. In addition, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Christian Birthday Sisterhood thar met monthly and supported man actives within the Community and a member of the Paisley Methodist Church. Jane and her husband Richard were celebrated as Mr. and Mrs. Umatilla several years ago at the Umatilla Christmas Parade. She was very proud to be a member of the Umatilla community. Jane is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard, daughters Susie Parnell,(Mooresville, NC.), Beth Nelson (Rick) (Umatilla), and sons Richard Jr. (Elizabeth) (Apopka), and David Blais (Debby)(Tavares). 8 Grandchildren: Jason Parnell (Alison) (GA), Meredith Kavanaugh (Bryan) (GA), Jared Parnell (Dorothy) (NC), Julianne Mullis (Christopher) (GA), Shawn Scovil (Ashlie), (Oakland), Nicholas Scovil (Ohio), Stephen Scovil (Apopka), Shane (Nikki), (Apopka), and step granddaughter, Scarlet Garcia (Rudy)(Clermont) and 14 Great Grandchildren. A celebration of family will be held on November 5, 2:00- 4:00 pm at family home at Live Oaks Ranch in Janes Garden. Friends are invited. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cornerstone Hospice or Lake County Humane Society.
