Harold "Hal" Meyer

Hal passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2026, leaving behind a family and a community of friends who will deeply miss his unmistakable smile, generous spirit, love of a good time, and remarkable ability to make just about anyone feel like an old friend. Hal married the love of his life, Karen, on October 14, 2000. With Karen came a bonus son, Matthew Roberts (Jennifer), whom Hal embraced as family. Over the years, that family grew to include three beloved granddaughters, Emma, Addison, and Mary Roberts, as well as two bonus grandsons, Jakob and Jared Alexandrian. Hal loved his family deeply and took great joy in being a husband and "Tapa". He is survived by his sister, Joanne Colborn and her family, whom he held dearly. Baseball was one of Hal’s lifelong passions. A devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves, he didn’t just enjoy watching the game—he loved playing it, too. Hal was an avid softball player in his local league, where the friendships and camaraderie were every bit as important to him as the game itself. In 2019, Hal and Karen moved to The Villages, and it didn’t take long for Hal to build a community around him. That was simply who he was. Hal never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation, friendship, and bringing people together, and many of the friendships he formed there quickly became like family. His faith was also an important part of his life. A devout Catholic and member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hal spent several years volunteering in the church food pantry. Serving others was another way he quietly shared the kindness and generosity that came so naturally to him. And then there was the music. Hal loved music and played the drums in garage bands over the years. He was happiest when good music was playing, people were laughing, and friends and family were gathered together. Hal was truly the life of the party—the kind of man who made sure the music was on, everyone’s glass was full, and nobody was sitting alone. Those who knew Hal will remember far more than the things he loved. They will remember how it felt to be around him. His warmth. His humor. His stories. His energy. His ability to turn acquaintances into friends and ordinary gatherings into memories. Hal’s passing leaves an enormous absence in the lives of those who loved him, but it also leaves behind countless stories, friendships, songs, baseball memories, and moments of laughter that will continue to be shared for years to come. He lived his life surrounded by what mattered most to him—faith, family, friendship, baseball, music, and a whole lot of fun. A Funeral Mass celebrating Hal's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
