Obituary of George Mayfield George Alpha Mayfield of Leesburg, FL passed away after a short illness on October 3, 2011 while staying at Silver Lake Assisted Living. He was born in Madison, IN on January 8, 1922 to parents Nathan and Bess Bayfield and had two brothers: Nathan and James Mayfield and one sister: Mary Alice Stokes.He graduated from Madison High School and was then off to defend our country in WWII as a member of the Army Airforce where he received many medals and exceeded the required number of missions. After returning, he married Charlotte Pickett and was blessed with four children. He was an excellent businessman, a good husband and provider for his family and a loving father and grandfather who left his children and grandchildren with many fond memories. Charlotte Mayfield, his wife now deceased, helped him in all his endeavors and they were married fifty years. He was a Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason, a lifelong member of the Elks Club, member of V.F.W. and American Legion as well as many other organizations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing bridge.He is survived by daughters: Kay Vega of Clearwater, FL., Susan Conway of Leesburg, FL. Cynthia Fricke of Weirsdale, FL; son in law, Kevin Conway of Leesburg, FL; grandsons: Eric Vega, Kevin Conway and Kyle Conway; granddaughters: Martina Lyons, Georgia Heistian and Amanda Arnold. He was predeceased by a son Nathan James Mayfield, granddaughters Jessica Williamson and Jillana Williamson and of course, his parents and siblings. Thank You's go out to all of his friends: Marvin Craig, Linda Urff, bridge club members, Waterman Hospital Staff, Nurse Nancy, Dr. Dan Boggus, Andrea MacDonald ARNP, & the employees of Silver Lake Assisted Living. A visitation will be held on Thursday October 6, 2011 from 2-3 pm at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel in Leesburg, FL with a Funeral Service including Masonic Service at 3:00 pm.
