Fredric Allan Fisher

On January 25, 2018, Fredric A. Fisher, 80, of Umatilla, FL died peacefully at his home. His daughter, Victoria O'Day; son, Cliff Lemanski; and daughter-in-law, Tamara were at his side. Although he was born in Wyoming, he was raised on a farm in Goodman, WI. He was preceded in death by Dorothy G. Fisher, his wife of 55 years; Dan Gutbrod, brother-in-law, Weyauwega, WI; James Anderson, son-in-law, Goodman, WI; Shane Tastinger, great grandson, of North Carolina. Fred is survived by his son Clifford (Tamara) Lemanski, Aurora, WI; three daughters: Konni Anderson, Fort Collins, CO; Vikki O'Day, Umatilla, FL; Faith Carey, Cheyenne, WY; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his sister, Sandra Gutbrod, Weyauwega, WI; and estranged sister, Anita, from Illinois. He enjoyed the history of the western cowboy, the gangsters of the 20's and 30's and the heroes of the Civil War. As a result, he traveled to Texas and New Mexico and worked in Nebraska and southern Chicago right after his high school graduation. However, he eventually returned to Wisconsin and worked for the Goodman Lumber Mill and Frigo Dairy Company. In August of 1962 Fred married Dorothy, a widow with four children and became husband, father and provider. The new family moved to Miami Springs and then in 1964, moved to Hollywood, where he was hired by the Hollywood Fire Department. The time he spent as a firefighter for the Hollywood Fire Department, was truly the career he loved most. Like several other Hollywood firemen, Fred retired to the Umatilla area in 1988. Fred was an industrious hands-on kind of guy that tackled everything straight on and was always ready to offer a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He was a farmer, a rancher, a heavy equipment operator, an electrician, a security guard, a bounty hunter, an EMT, a limousine driver, maintenance and grounds keeper, a restaurant owner and former owner of the Umatilla Recycling Center. Fred finally retired in 2014 after having worked for the Mission Inn for over 20 years. Fred was known as a prankster; his co-workers and friends never knew what he'd do next. He loved antique cars and tractors and spent much of his time buying, restoring, maintaining, and using them on a daily basis. And he had a gift for sharing American history and stories of the Old West in a way that was interesting and fun. Fred's home office was the family gathering place for him to share these stories and his lifetime adventures, too numerous to count. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Beyers Funeral Home Chapel in Umatilla, FL. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. He will return to Goodman, WI for burial at Glenwood Cemetery in the spring.
