Frederick F. Giel

Deacon Fred Giel, 81, The Villages, FL (formerly of Burton, OH) passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was born in Cleveland, OH and moved to The Villages with his wife Mary Ann in 2000. Fred graduated from Cathedral Latin, was a U.S. Army veteran, a policeman in Twinsburg, OH for 10 years. He was also a successful business owner of both Ledge Lake Park in Burton, OH and Burton Carpet Shoppe in Newbury, OH., worked as a starter for the Villages golf division and was most recently, an Associate for Beyers Funeral Home in Lady Lake, FL. Fred enjoyed softball, golf and living the Villages lifestyle. As he always said "Living the Dream". Fred was ordained a Deacon in 1987 for the Diocese of Cleveland and was very heavily involved at St. Helen Catholic Church, Newbury, OH. Upon moving to the The Villages he joined the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Lady Lake where he continued his work as a Deacon. Fred was preceded in death by his first wife Lucy (nee Smith) with whom he had seven children; his daughter Mary Ellen Blaha and great grandson Caleb Miller. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Mary Ann; children: Matt Sr. (Diane); Mark; Mike (Carrie); Marty (Jill); Maggie Cleary (Mike); Molly Burzanko (Andy); Jerry Robinson (Anita); Mark Robinson (Michelle); Kevin Robinson (Jennifer); 34 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and John Giel; brothers-in-law Pete Dembitsky (Jeanne); Ed Smith; Sisters-in-law Dee Beard (Mel) and Mary McLaughlin (Tom) and many nieces and nephews.Visitation and Service A visitation will be held at The Lady Lake Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a service to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. InurnmentInurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.Additional Services A memorial service will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church in Newbury, OH on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. .
