Emily Marie Summers

July 13, 1924 - September 14, 2019 Emily Marie Summers, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 14, 2019. She was born on July 13, 1924 to William E. and Emma Jo Howse in Brownsville, Tennessee. Marie and her husband Vernon Leon Summers Sr. were married on August 8, 1942, in Tupelo, Mississippi. They lived in Brownsville, Tennessee until coming to Leesburg, Florida in 1958 with their only child, Leon Summers. Marie's faith and family were the most important things in her life. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed being active while attending Lake Square Church (now GraceWay Church). She loved helping people, meeting new people, and talking to them, and loved spending time with friends and family. Marie belonged to Silver Lake Country Club, and was an avid golfer, liked to garden , and was a member of Silver Lake Garden Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R); and a member of 'Eastern Star". She was a wonderful cook and everyone loved her specialty, Pecan Pie! Most of all Marie enjoyed being with her family members; all of them lived close by. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother; great- grandmother; great- great grandmother, and aunt. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and a brother; and her loving husband of 72 years, Vernon Summers. She is survived by her sister, Jean Renn Hunter, Leesburg, Florida, her son, Leon Summers (Bettye Lee), Leesburg, Florida; two grandsons; Greg Summers (Sandy), Leesburg, Florida, and Bryan Summers (Jacqueline), Oxford, Florida; also; Five Great-grandchildren, Alan Summers, Fruitland Park, Florida, Damian Summers, Leesburg, Florida, Brandy (Shane) Danford, Wildwood, Florida, Ashley Summers and Cooper Summers, Oxford, Florida. Marie's two great-great grandchildren are Alan's daughter Bentleigh Summers (age 3) and Brandy and Shane's son, Dayton Danford (age 1). Marie was also a devoted aunt to many, many special nieces and nephews; and a great friend to all. She was a lovely "Southern Belle" lady who lived and cared about all her friends and family. She will be greatly missed; but we have so many loving memories of all the years we've shared! Funeral Services will be held at GraceWay Church, 10200 Morningside Dr. Leesburg Florida 34788-3685. Visitation and reception at 11:00 AM On Monday September 23, 2019 followed by a service at 12:00 Noon. Private (Family Only) burial services immediately after funeral at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Contributions may be made in her memory to GraceWay Church or Cornerstone Hospice.
