Dorothy M Curry

Dorothy Mae (Thompson) Curry of The Villages passed away suddenly, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, with family by her side. She was 83 years young. Born on July,6, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to John Arthur Thompson and Dorothy Mae (Brezina) Thompson, she was given the nickname “Pink” for her beautiful complexion. Her mother died when “Pink” was only 8 months old, her father remarried Nellie (Gessert) when she was 4.5 years old. Through this marriage Dorothy gained an older brother, William Frank Thompson, (Gerry) and John Thompson. The family moved to Toledo in 1953 and Dottie graduated from Devilbiss High school, in 1958. She then pursued her passion to become a beautician and enrolled in the Toledo Academy of Beauty Culture, where she became a licensed beautician. While working the evening of May 13th, 1960, she was introduced to her future husband, C. Douglas Curry. Douglas proposed on October 31, 1960 and they were married on June 30, 1961. She soon became a mother to son Kevin & daughter Kellie. In 1967, Doug & Dorothy began Douglas Curry Excavating, with Dorothy managing the office. In 1968 Dottie became a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and remained a member until her death. She was also a volunteer for the Toledo chapter of Meals on Wheels. In 1974 Dottie & Doug became members of the Shriners Hospital of North America. Dottie became involved in Ah-key-Ra, a performing dance unit and also a member of Patrol, a women’s precision marching group which was part of the Dendarah Court. Which were both units in the Ladies division of Shriners Hospital. Dottie was appointed to High Priestess of Dendarah court in 1988-1989. During her tenure she was hostess to the Diamond Jubilee for the Ladies Shrine of North America. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years C. Douglas Curry, and her granddaughter Samantha Jean Jensen. Survived by son Kevin Curry, daughter Kellie Dessum (Dan). Grand children Dr. Melissa Curry, D.V.M, Amanda Curry, Danielle Jensen, Douglas Jensen (Matthew Alvarez). Great granddaughters Samantha Jensen and Jett DeNofa. She will always be known for her kind and generous heart. Her devotion to her family but mostly for being the best wife, mom and Mammy ever. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at 10 AM at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Hwy 27/441 in Lady Lake with visitation from 9-10 AM. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Ocala.
