Charles A. Mullins, Sr. Resident of Twin Lakes - Umatilla FL Charles Albert Mullins, Sr. (Buzz), Born: 9/5/1932 in Charlotte N.C. He passed on to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus Christ on February 24, 2026 at the Advent Hospital in Tavares, FL. He leaves behind: Susan Mullins his beloved wife of over 50 yrs., and two loving sons, Charles A (Jr.) of Umatilla FL & Timothy William of Charlotte NC. Grandchildren: Benjamin Lee (of Alaska), Luke Andrew and Jacob (of Umatilla FL). Sisters: Helen Louise McGee and Ada Elizabeth Griffin of Charlotte NC. Too numerous to list, nieces, nephews and families. Those that preceded Buzz: Phillip John Mullins, Sr. (father) Myrtle Elizabeth Mullins (mother) Phillip John Mullins, Jr. (brother) Sisters: Mary Fern Mullins, Phyllis Heart Johnson, Dorothy Mae Paxton, Vivian Beatrice Haynes. After high school, Buzz joined the U.S. Air Force, continuing his education, served as part of a B-29 Crew on rescue missions toward the end of the Korean War. He was qualified to fly as flight engineer. Buzz served with honors and upon completion of this duty time, Buzz moved to Florida, entering training to become a commercial pilot, retiring after a long career of 30 years with Eastern Airlines. He was a captain, also flight instructor (check captain) and honored to fly the White House Press Charters during the Nixon presidency. Throughout his career flying to many Spanish countries, he learned to appreciate Spanish culture. No surprise that his wife Susan, previously employed by National airlines is a Cuban born American citizen. Buzz and Susan have been Florida residents since the 1950's. After his retirement, they moved to Altoona and later to Umatilla, Florida. For a time, they enjoyed their vacation lake home at Lake Tillery, Mount Gilead, N.C. Buzz had many interesting ventures along with his airline career. At one time he was a thoroughbred horse breeder with horses racing at the major race tracks in South Florida. Due to his interest in horses and cattle he served as a 4-H leader on the livestock committee of the Palm Beach County Fair. Buzz enjoyed both deep sea fishing and lake fishing in Florida. Those who knew Buzz recognized his passion mentoring young men to mature into godly men, as husbands and fathers that could pass on their faith, hope and love of our Savior Jesus Christ. While in NC, Buzz and Susan were active members of Prospect Baptist Church, in Florida members of Dunklin Memorial Church and the men's ministry program. In Lake County they were both members of FBC-Umatilla and more recently at LifePointe Church in Eustis FL. Buzz leaves behind many friends that remained close to him and Susan in the Lord. Favorite Bible Verse: 2nd Timothy 2:15 "Study (God's word) to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
