Obituary of Betty Hough Betty Jane Hough was born June 22, 1926 in E. St. Louis, Illinois. She met the love of her life Bob Hough in Denver Colorado in 1947. They were married in Rockford, Illinois on April 16, 1949. Betty passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 2, 2014 at the age of 87 following a brief illness. Betty worked as a secretary, a bookkeeper, and then as a partner with her dear friend Carol Baker Hopkins in their Cherished Possessions estate sale business. Her most important job, though, was raising her daughters Cheryl and Karen and being the ideal wife to her beloved husband Bob for 65 wonderful years. Everything Betty did, she did with enthusiasm and excellence: playing bridge, entertaining, gardening, cooking, golfing, playing dominos and card games, and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling and of course sharing her many gifts with her family and friends. She has gone to join her parents Art and Edna Meloan, her sister Meta Nelson, and her oldest daughter Cheryl Schmidt and son-in-law Frank Schmidt. She will be greatly missed by those of us who look forward to meeting up with her again someday, including her cherished husband Bob Hough, adoring daughter Karen Friebel and son-in-law Steve Friebel, sister Suzanne Smith and husband Dean, brother Jon Meloan and wife Gayle, sister-in-law Janet Gudie and husband Ron, grandson Matt Schmidt and wife Anna, granddaughters Cathy Lebron and husband Ismael, Jackie Williams and husband Mike, grandsons Brad Friebel and wife Amy, Andy Friebel and wife Jamie, and great-grandchildren Antoinette and Ashley Severino, Cheryl and Brent Schmidt, Eva and Nicolas Lebron, Owen, Jackson, and Shelby Williams, and the newest granddaughter-to-come Jamison Friebel. In addition to her large and loving family, Betty has been a treasured friend to so many people and spoke fondly of them all the time. Thank you all for being such an important part of her life. We appreciate so much the kindness and care given by the nurses, doctors, and staff of The Villages Regional Hospital. Betty will be always admired, always appreciated, always remembered, always loved, and always in our hearts. Thank you for being such an extraordinary lady. Betty's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Mother's Day, Sunday May 11 at 3:00 PM at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Highway 27/441, Lady Lake, FL.
