Maureen Jokinen

Obituary of Maureen Jokinen Maureen Elizabeth (Adams) Jokinen, 85, died peacefully January 9, 2013. She was born in New Milford, Conn. the oldest of 8 children. She completed training as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital, Bridgeport, Conn. having enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps where she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. She met and married her husband of 54 years, Taisto Jokinen, and raised a family of 5 children in Pembroke Massachusetts. She specialized as a nursery nurse caring for newborn babies over the next 40 years. Upon retiring they moved to The Villages, Florida enjoying traveling and visits to and from their large family. She was a lector and active member of St. Timothy Church Lady Lake prior to moving to Dunnellon, Florida with her son after her husband's death in 2005. She was a Red Cross Volunteer at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. She was a long standing member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 347 Lady Lake. Survivors include 4 daughters; Carol and husband Bob Sherman, The Villages, Florida; Diane Keaton, Alachua, Florida; Linda O'Leary Manchester, New Hampshire; Elaine Brawner, Dunnellon, Florida and son Michael and wife Lori Jokinen of Dunnellon, Florida. Also 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Sisters, Elsie Demuth, New Milford, Conn.; Patricia Olson, Groveton, New Hampshire; Janet Barrett, Ludowici Georgia; and brother Edward Adams of Palmdale California Family and friends may call at Beyers Funeral Home Lady Lake, Fl on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 3pm-5pm with a prayer service at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 14, 2013 at 8:30 am at St. Timothy Church, Lady Lake, FL with Father Gerry Shovelton, Celebrant. Graveside services will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #347.
