Mary McGonigal

In Loving Memory: Mary McGonigal (January 14, 1943 - January 20, 2024) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary McGonigal, a cherished member of our community, devoted Christian, and loving soul. Mary was born on January 14, 1943, in McAlester, Oklahoma, and she peacefully departed this world on January 20, 2024, in Tavares after a 12 year old bout with cancer. Mary was 81 years old. Mary's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the love she held for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her journey was guided by the principles of compassion, forgiveness, and grace, reflecting the teachings she held dear to her heart. Mary found solace and strength in her faith, and she shared the light of Christ with everyone she encountered. Mary grew up in Barberville, FL and graduated from T. DeWitt Taylor High School in Pierson, FL. She later moved to Cassia and met her husband Ed. Ed and Mary got married at her house in Cassia on Dec 31, 1971. They lived in Umatilla for over 45 years. During that time Mary worked as a Customer Service Representative for Sumter Electric in Eustis. She always had a smile for everyone that she encountered. After Ed passed away in 2019, she married Charles Byrd, an old schoolmate. They married at her beloved church, First Baptist of Umatilla, surrounded by family and friends. While living in Eustis, Charles provided her with loving companionship as she continued her long battle with cancer. Mary's life was marked by a profound sense of love and generosity. She extended a helping hand to those in need, offering comfort and support with a gentle and caring spirit. Her love for Jesus shone through in every interaction, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. In addition to her spiritual devotion, Mary was a loving family member and friend. Her warmth, laughter, and wisdom created a nurturing environment for her loved ones. Mary's legacy is one of faith, love, and the profound impact of a life lived in service to Christ and others.. She is survived by her Husband: Charles Byrd of Eustis,: her daughter: Sally E. Fredericks of Eustis; her son: Matthew E. McGonigal (Natalie) of Leesburg; granddaughters: Elizabeth L. Powers and Penelope A. McGonigal; great granddaughter: Eddison Powers; and her brothers: Robert Reed of DeLeon Springs, John Bolin of Eustis. Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Irving F. Price and Elizabeth McKay Bolin; and her brother: Henry Price. A memorial service to celebrate Mary McGonigal's life and faith will be held at First Baptist Church of Umatilla on Friday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Umatilla Building Fund in Mary's honor. May Mary rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of Jesus, and may her memory continue to inspire faith and compassion in all who knew her.
