Mary P. Brailsford, 86, Chase Mills, NY/Center Hill, FL Chase Mills – On the evening of Saturday, October 8, 2022, Mary P. Brailsford, age 86, passed away peacefully with Hospice, her devoted husband, and loving daughter by her side, in Leesburg, Florida. Mary was born May 19, 1936 in Haverhill Massachusetts to the late Dorothy Linehan. She graduated from St. James High School in Massachusetts in 1954. She later married her childhood sweetheart Richard Brailsford at St Josephs Church in Haverhill Massachusetts and settled down in East Kingston, NH. She went on to have nine children as well as babysitting the neighborhood kids. They had sixty-six wonderful years together. Raising and taking care of nine children was Mary’s career, and a job well done. In 1976, they purchased a dairy farm in Chase Mills, NY where among raising cows, pigs, and whatever other animals the kids brough home, she raised her family. Mary was known for always having an extra seat at the dinner table for anyone who might have stopped by, and fresh cookies and baked goodies. It is said the first stop anyone made coming into the house was the cookie jar. This included all friends, visitors and Uncle Paul, but especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who were all the love of her life. After retiring in 1989, Mary and her husband began to travel. At first going to Clearwater Beach in Florida before being convinced to travel to South Padre Island, Texas. After five years of traveling between those locations, they settled to be snowbirds in Center Hill, Florida. She made many friends along the way and was affectionately known as the “cookie lady”. She enjoyed any get together that included the family, reading books, pot luck, musical jams, and Bingo. Besides her husband, she is survived by eight children. Paul Brailsford, Patty Burleigh, Robert Brailsford, Lee Brailsford and Brian Brailsford, all of Massena, NY, Joseph Brailsford and David Brailsford of Chase Mills, NY and Richard Brailsford of Manchester, NH. She also has nine grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor, Kaleb, Andrew, Zachary, Brittany, Patti, Dorothy, Matthew, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son James Brailsford of Rochester, NH in April 2004 and one grandchild, Justin Brailsford of Massena, NY, in March 2017. A Celebration of Life with be held at the convenience of the family with a date to be announced. All donations in her memory can be made to ALSAC/St. Jude’s, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN. 38105. A cause which she held dear to her heart.
