Obituary of Joan Dunton Joan C. Dunton (Anderson) of Palo Alto Villages, FL (formerly from Glenville, NY) passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2015. In her 80 plus years, Joan was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and beloved friend to all that were lucky enough to have known her. A graduate of Mont Pleasant HS in Schenectady, NY Joan went off to college to study French horn and music education at the Crane School of Music at the State University at Potsdam where she received her bachelor degree. During the summers, to help pay for college, Joan and her two sisters, June (her twin) and Bettye, who also attended Crane, sang at the Dellwood Resort in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Joan taught music for over thirty years, mostly Jr High level, and taught French horn privately on the side. She lived life passionately bringing her joy, love and laughter to all she met and knew. She championed the musical arts, education and enjoyed singing with The Village Voices, Showtime Singers, Philharmonic Orchestra and North Lake Presbyterian Church Choir, where she also volunteered. Joan is preceded in death by 1st husband Al Opicka, sister Bettye, son Keith, step-son Tom Dunton, brother-n-law Ron Partch and her husband Robert Dunton. She is survived by twin sister June Partch, cousin Bob Hall, children Debra Murphy, Mark Opicka, step-children Bob Dunton (Marylou) Carol Rieken (Bill), grandchildren and step-grandchildren Brielle, Bob, Chris, Michael, Greg, Erin, Molly as well as many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind countless friends, who loved and adore her as did her family. Joan was inspirational, joyful, caring and loved by everyone that had the pleasure of meeting her. She was a joy to be around, loved laughter and making others laughs and lit up any room she entered. She lived her life lovingly to its fullest and will be greatly missed. Our loss is heavens gain.
