Obituary for Douglas Randall Taylor

Douglas Randall Taylor
Douglas Taylor, 62, of Fruitland Park, FL passed away on April 22, 2021 at his home. He was born in Louisville, KY on December 20, 1958 to the late Ray Taylor and Madalyn Cates Taylor.
Doug married and divorced twice and left no children. He is survived by his mother, Madalyn Cates Martin of Lady Lake, FL and his brother, Allen (Anne) Taylor of Punta Gorda, FL. He is also survived by numerous cousins and nephews.

Doug was a 1976 graduate of Ballard High School in Louisville KY. After leaving high school, he obtained his real estate license and worked with his father as a real estate agent in Louisville. While he was good at real estate sales, it was not his real passion.

Upon leaving the real estate business, Doug used his innate creativity along with his passion and love of plants to pursue a career in landscape design. He had a vast knowledge of plants which he utilized in creating his unique and beautiful landscapes. Throughout his career, he designed and executed landscapes in both the residential and commercial markets.

After living in St. Thomas, USVI for five years, he returned to Florida to be closer to his family. Upon returning, he continued to work in the landscaping business in various capacities until health problems prevented him from performing the heavy labor required in that business. He helped train and educate many friends who wished to work in the landscaping and lawn care fields even when he could no longer do the work himself.

He lived for many years on Skycrest Boulevard in Fruitland Park, FL. During his many years there, he took care of many of the residents as they aged and could no longer care for themselves. He made many friends in the area and had a real gift for listening to and caring for his neighbors.
Doug will be cremated, and his remains returned to Mt. Washington, KY where he will be placed to rest with his father, Ray, and his uncle Roy.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Doug Taylor to the American Heart Association.
