María Antonia Díaz Serrano (83) of Leesburg, FL passed away at UFHealth Leesburg Hospital in Leesburg, FL on February 21, 2021. She was born August 23, 1937 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

María is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jorge Hernández Díaz and her son Javier and Lisa Hernández Díaz of Southbury, CT, and step sons Jorge Jr. and Norma Hernández of Kearney, MO and Efraín and Aimee Hernández of St. Cloud, FL. She was blessed with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Idalia, Myriam and Luisín, and brothers José Luis, Alberto, and Wilfredo along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. María was preceded in death by her siblings Ada and Rafaél.

María was a woman of strong faith and great love, especially for family and children. María’s joy for dancing and singing, even around the kitchen, was infectious. She was very connected to her family and her greatest happiness was when we could all be together. María was the anchor that kept the family together always bringing light into the room with her energetic spirit, positive attitude and unending unconditional joy for life. She has left our lives better for knowing her. She will forever be in our memories and hearts.

María was an active parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Community Church in Leesburg, FL. She served regularly as a reader and attended for many years with her husband.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for María at the St. Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday March 3rd, 2021 at 10:00 am EST. Immediately following she will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 12:30 pm EST.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donors give to St. Jude’s foundation in honor of children fighting cancer. Two causes very close to María’s heart. María ha sido precedida en muerte por su hermana Ada y hermano Rafaél.

María era una mujer de mucha fe y gran amor especialmente por la familia y los niños. Su alegría al bailar y cantar, aun en la cocina, era contagiosa. María estaba bien conectada a su familia y su mayor felicidad era el vernos todos juntos. María era un ancla que siempre mantuvo unida a su familia, iluminándonos con su espíritu jovial, positivo y enérgico. Siempre nos brindó amor incondicional. Su partida, aunque triste, nos deja su marca, haciéndonos mejores personas por haberla conocido. María siempre vivirá en nuestros recuerdos y en nuestros corazones.

María era miembro activo en la Comunidad Católica de St. Paul en Leesburg, FL donde asistía regularmente con su esposo y servía como lectora.

Habrá una misa para María en la Comunidad Católica de St. Paul el Miércoles 3 de Marzo del 2021 a las 10:00 am (EST) inmediatamente seguida por el funeral en el Cementerio Nacional de Florida en Bushnell, FL a las 12:30 pm (EST).
